If you are planning to go for a hike there are many options!

 


Hantam National Botanical Garden

The Hantan National Botanical Garden was established by SANBI on the well known GlenLyon Conservation Farm of Neil and Neva MacGregor.

The Garden is open weekdays from 07:30 – 16:30 (except during flowering season, when it's open over weekends).

Entrance to the Garden is free with the exception of the three flowering months, usually August to October, when entrance is R10 for adults, R5 for children and senior citizens and free for Botanical Society Members (with valid BotSoc membership cards).

Nieuwoudtville Wild Flower Reserve

The Nieuwoudtville Wild Flower Reserve treasures many rare species and displays amazing geophytes.

There are some circular routes for walking 2 hours. This is also an amazing place to relax and enjoy those spring days or cool summer mornings.

This gem of a reserve is supported by the local Biodviersity Group and supported by WWF and SANBI.


Nieuwoudtville Waterfall Reserve

The Nieuwoudtville gorge and waterfall are a breathtaking feature on the plateau. The force of the water has created the gorge and waterfall. The waterfall will be running after good rains from July- October. In the "dry season" the gorge is well worth visiting. There are some special plants in the reserve and rich Birdlife.

The waterfall is very accessible and access is wheelchair friendly.


The Oorlogskloof Nature Reserve

This reserve offers more serious hikes for people who are seeking a challenge! There are day trips and 3-4 day routes through amazing virgin Fynbos. Visit rock paintings while you hike.

Farm Hikes through the Wildernesss

There are various options to go hiking on farms in remote and prestine areas of Wilderness.

Please contact the information office and do not forget to obtain the permission of the farmer beforehand.


Explore the Rooibos Heritage Route

If you want to learn more about the local culture, the life of small scale Rooibos Tea farmers you are invited to explore the Rooibos Heritage Route between Nieuwoudtville and Wupperthal in the Cederberg.

Experience local culture and eat traditional food, sleep in a restio house and ride on a donkey cart! All activities along the route are community based tourism initiatives.

You must book at least 2 weeks in advance.

Food and Culture - Rietjieshut Cultural Tours

Experience Farm life and local culture by taking a guided tour focussing in medicinal plants and their use, local restio architecture,rock art and rooibos tea! On you return to the local restio house you will be welcomed with some traditional meals. This group is also a member of the Rooibos Heritage Route.
