This is an ideal getaway for nature lovers, hikers, star gazers, photographers and those longing for an authentic Hantam Karoo experience. This beautiful farm is the home of the largest quiver tree forest in the southern hemisphere.
No cell phone reception is available, but free Wi-Fi can be accessed at Gannabos Farm.
Gannabos is a stylishly furnished cottage, perfect for honeymoon couples, a romantic getaway or just a stopover when travelling long distances such as to Augrabies waterfall, Kgalagadi or even the Kalahari.
For larger groups of people or families, both Kareeboom farm cottage and Kareeboom farmhouse are available for your stay. They are 6.5km from the main farm Gannabos. Kareeboom farm cottage caters for between 2 – 6 people and Kareeboom farmhouse for 2 – 10 people. Both fall under the same management as Gannabos.
The private, one bedroom cottage or ‘rondawel’ with its beautiful double cast iron bed, has an en-suite bathroom with a shower. Feather duvets, cotton linen, and soft luxurious towels are provided to enrich your stay. It offers peace and solitude. All basic kitchen necessities are available. You have the facilities to prepare a delicious breakfast in the privacy of the cottage. A two burner gas plate and bar fridge are provided as well. You do not need to do any dishes here, it is one of the many perks of visiting Gannabos.
Next to the cottage is a swimming pool and braai area. Everything from wood, fire-lighters, grill and braai tools are included and set up with a table and chairs so you can enjoy the panoramic views of the surrounding landscape from within the tranquil garden while enjoying a peaceful braai. Homemade farm products such as rusks, a variety of jams and preserved products including quinces and green figs are available for purchase.
Gannabos is part of the famous Rondekop/Naresie wildflower route, which is world renowned for its wild flower season. It is situated 35km outside Nieuwoudtville, which boasts a stunning waterfall, glacial pavement, bulb nursery and flower reserve; 50km from Loeriesfontein, well known for its Windmill Museum; 90km from Calvinia with its Museum, historic Hantam House and the famous giant post box.
PLEASE NOTE:There will be a limit set on the number of photographers and/or visitors entering the quiver tree forest between 18:00 and 06:00. A permit from the owner will be required at a cost of R250 per person should you be keen to experience the forest between these hours. Guests at Gannabos and Kareeboom have the privilege to come and go as they please, free of charge.
Please remember that the quiver tree forest is on private property.
